Borneo Cross Border Program 2018

Borneo Border Crossing Program 2018 (RSB) was organized by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Universiti Putra Malaysia Kampus Bintulu (UPMKB). The program is a mission to bring university students with the community through the corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the university through a land-based challenge that will cover 2,500 km journey.

According to Prof. Madya Dr. Saafie Salleh, Chairman of RSB 2018, the program aims to provide charitable and community services to the village community. Among the activities carried out are health screening, telematch, academic promotion, coloring and khat competition, cultural performances such as dance and singing, and lore activities with the village community and so on.

Add Dr. Saafie again, students coming from different states can be exposed to the culture and customs of the locals and to understand the cultures of different races. Two stopover locations were selected at Kg. Empila, Kota Samarahan (7-8 November) and Ulu Sebauh, Bintulu (November 9-11) to make this program a success.

A total of 70 participants (staff and students) from UMS and 26 students from UPMKB participated in the program as volunteers at Jimbai Anak Saban Longhouse, Ulu Sebauh, Bintulu on 10-11 November 2018.

The Borneo Border Crossing Program 2018 can shape the uniqueness of UPMKB volunteerism as a high-spirited volunteer, attentive, loving and mutual respect. In addition, this program can also leave a positive impact on the local community. University students will recognize and understand the culture and customs of local communities with cultural intersections, friendly with their foster parents.

Furthermore, the Borneo Border Crossings 2018 can also enhance the network of close collaboration between the universities involved in the success of the program.
