LAYER AND BROILER DUCK REARING COURSE 2019

Bintulu - 29 June 2019 45 participants from areas around Bintulu, Belaga, Asap, Miri, Kuching, Sibu, Mukah, Dalat, Selangau, Tatau as well as 2 participants from Brunei Darussalam attended the course in UPM Bintulu campus, Sarawak. The University Agricultural Park has organized courses for rearing layer ducks involving the local community twice, i.e.  3 March 2015 and 15 September 2018 and due to a high demand from the local community this course has been organized once more.

Duck rearing is not as difficult as rearing chickens. This is because ducks are hardy creatures and they do not succumb to diseases easily. There are slight differences in the way poultry ducks are cared for and managed and this is actually easier compared to rearing chickens.  The demand for duck meat and duck eggs is increasing from day to day making the rearing of broiler and later ducks more and more popular among agricultural entrepreneurs.

The course which was carried out with both theory and practical sessions  is expected receive an encouraging response from  the staff of UPM Bintulu campus, Sarawak as well as the local community in the Bintulu Division as well as the rest of Sarawak with the huge potential and high demand for broiler and layer ducks in the market. Through enrolling in this course, participants will be able to understand the basic needs in rearing ducks. They will also learn how to manage the health of broiler and layer ducks, as well as understand how to prepare and make food for these two types of ducks. In addition, the course will also encourage and motivate participants both in Bintulu as well as the rest of Sarawak as they understand the huge potential in rearing layer and broiler ducks.
