COMMUNITY PROGRAM FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Such skills are very important for students in facing the challenges of today and in preparation to produce graduates with high soft skills when stepping out after graduation.

BINTULU: The direct participation of students and students in various university programmes will enhance their communication skills, provide exposure and experience in managing a program thus strengthening their leadership qualities and responsibilities.

Director of Universiti Putra Malaysia Campus Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) Professor Dr Shahrul Razid said the involvement of students during the 'The Baksis Day' program which is a local community program can strengthen the soft skills and personality of the students.

He said the program opened the perspective of the students to always have a positive mind in inculcating the spirit of cooperation and helping each other.

"Skills like this are very important for students in facing the challenges of the present and in preparation to produce graduates with high soft skills when stepping out after graduation," he said here, yesterday.

He said this as commenting on the participation of 105 UPMKB Students in the Putra Bakti: 'Serve the Circle' Program in conjunction with The Baksis Day @ UPMKB 2022.

The program also received the cooperation of UPMKB Student Affairs Division, Bintulu Port Authority (LPB) and the K9 Unit of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Bintulu District Police Headquarters (IPD).

Hence, he said, the management of such programs is very good in shaping the responsibility of the students in sowing dedication and more understanding in the campus as well as the local community.

Various activities and programs were held by students of each group, namely Bakti Pelajar Group 1 of the Animal Exhibition Program (AnimEX 4.0) on 29 October which emphasized the method of face-to-face learning with the public at the grounds of Dewan Sri Kenyalang UPMKB.

The program, among others, is to foster awareness among the community on the importance of special skills of pet, reptile and aquatic animal care, thus potentially becoming a platform for knowledge sharing in the animal husbandry industry that also generates the country's economic development.

The Group 2 Student Service conducted the 'STEMazing With Us Program' on 12 November 2022 at Lecture Room 2 and 3 with the aim of attracting students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Meanwhile, the Group 3 Student Service conducted the 'The Baksis Day@HealLIS' Program also on 12 November 2022 at UPMKB's 2A Central Lecture Hall involving aerobic gymnastics, laughter therapy, motivational talks and cooking demonstrations.

The highlight was the gotong-royong activity to clean and brighten the UPMKB Islamic Centre area with the aim of strengthening the ukhuwah between students and staff as well as celebrating the closing ceremony of 'The Baksis Day @ UPMKB 2022'.

The program was enlivened with the demonstration of the PDRM K9 Unit which has an effective impact on the community of all ages, thus sharing knowledge, sensory learning, language strengthening and strengthening family ties.

Also present were the Principal Head of Student Affairs of UPMKB Dr Kamil Latif, Deputy Director of Putra UPMKB Agricultural Centre Dr Amy Halimah as well as the facilitators of the Roslan Ismail, Mohammad Saufi Mohammad Ramli and Dr Wan Nor Zanariah Zainol@ Abdullah.
